Tour Itinerary
Day 1
London - Newquay
Leaving the noisy city of London we whisk you off to Stonehenge - the enigmatic 5000 year old stone structure, World Heritage Site and icon of ancient England. We then head through Somerset and Dorset to eerie Dartmoor, home of mischievous pixies and a land of Giants, witches and the Hound of the Baskervilles... Crossing over 2000 year old Roman bridges, we then drive through the mysterious Bodmin moor, home of the Beast of Bodmin and past the Jamaica Inn (the setting of Daphne du Maurier's novels). We end the day in the English surfer's paradise of Newquay - great waves and fabulous sandy beaches!
Day 2
Newquay - Newquay
We depart for a ieisurely drive around the Celtic county of Cornwall stopping at St. Michael's Mount, a tidal island with a medieval castle and church on it! We then explore the standing stones and quoits of Cornwall which are thousands of years old. Have a huge Cornish pasty for lunch and then burn it off as we walk to the tip of Britain - Land's End, Britiain's most south-westerly point! Then its on to the amazing, atmospheric, outdoor theatre of Minack built by one woman last century and based on a Roman amphitheatre. Pretty spectacular stuff with the waves crashing on the horizon! Back to Newquay to party!
Day 3
Newquay - Glastonbury
King Arthur day! We start at the coastal castle of Tintagel, said to be Arthur's birth place and take a coastal walk before heading up to the picture postcard village of Clovelly where cars are banned leaving donkeys to carry around all the goods! Have a Devon cream tea in this gorgeous medieval village with cobbled stones and thatched cottages. We then head up to Exmoor, England's only seaside national park then stop off at Dunster, a village run on the ancient feudal system - every house is owned by the Lord of the Manor! We spend the night in Glastonbury, overlooking the Abbey, burial place of King Arthur and birthplace of English Christianity.
Day 4
Glastonbury - London
We depart the town after visiting the medieval tor where the Holy Grail is rumoured to be - if you don't find it, don't worry, the views more than make up for it! We then head to Wells, England's smallest city with its largest cathedral and then on to Cheddar Gorge, England's mini Grand Canyon. Time for a bit of cheese and some famous scrumpy cider! We lunch in the City of Bath, famous for its Roman Baths (of course!) and impressive Georgian architecture. We finish off the tour with a visit to historic Lacock, one of England's most picturesque villages and home to many a costume drama - Pride & Preudice and Emma to name a couple, before dropping by 5000 year old Avebury Stone circle - the largest circle of stones in Europe...
